Daryl’s FIT TIP of the Day:
Try to avoid waking up to a loud sudden alarm clock from a sound sleep. Most people wake to the sound of a loud sound clock. This shocks the systems of the body (sympathetic nervous system) which causes a surge in adrenalin and cortisol. Starting the day off in a stress response will alter the entire biorhythm of the body all day long. It is best to awaken slowly and gently to avoid an acute sympathetic stress response. Use a light alarm clock, or one that plays music so that the volume can be adjusted. Keeping the volume low will allow the body to wake up gently through the correct awakening stages. How you sleep and how you wake up has a direct impact on your health.
For me the best way to wake up is having my 6 year old little girl kiss me on the cheek and whispering “I love you Daddy!” That is better than any alarm clock.
