I Remember a Time

I remember as a kid, living in a country that was awesome, dreaming of the day when I would be able to work full time and be a productive part of society, to raise a family and follow the American dream.

I remember when a hand shake meant something. It was an act of trust that would seal a relationship. It was a contract that held accountability to a situation.

I remember a time when kids would play for hours outside afterschool, entertaining themselves and engaging in fun physical outlets. Playing football with the neighborhood kids, playing kick the can, hide and go seek, basketball pick-up games, whiffle ball, etc…

I remember a time when morals and wholesome values meant something, and people strived to uphold these societal traits.

I remember a time when we would watch television shows that were wholesome, fun loving, compassionate, and sent out positive messages of hope, faith, dignity, respect and love.

I remember a time when people went to church on Sundays. Businesses would be closed to allow families to be together and to go to church.

I remember when honor, loyalty, and integrity meant something.

I remember when someone gave their word they stuck by it.

I remember a time when people worked together to solve a problem in a calm, intellectual manner.

I remember a time when people actually talked face to face.

I remember a time when marriage meant something.

I remember a time we could eat; tuna, milk, beef, vegetables without having to worry about these foods killing us or making us sick.

I remember a time when time when food didn’t have be labeled organic.

I remember a time when Americans worked together to do great things in: science, technology, medicine, art, education, society to propel to a higher standard among the world.

I remember when America was patriotic.

I remember when Christmas meant something more than santa claus and greed.

I remember a time when children respected adults and called them with a surname Mr. or Mrs.

I remember a time when kids worked for things.

I remember a time when people worked hard and wanted to be something productive in society.

I remember a time when people were intelligent and respectable.

I remember a time when people listened without getting hostile or potentially violent.

I remember when people could disagree calmly and respectfully.

I remember when accountability meant something.

I remember a time people helped each other.

I remember a time when people cared.

I remember a time when kids could ride their bikes in town, or walk to school without having to fear being abducted or abused.

I remember when it was safe to go to church.

I remember a time when love meant something.

I remember a time when compassion meant something.

I remember a time when we could fly in planes, run marathons, be in public places and not have to worry about an extreme religious group attacking and killing us.

I remember when AMERICA was awesome!
