Serotonin the “well being” and mood enhancing hormone is responsible for making people feel good and happy. Did you know that more serotonin is produced in the gastrointestinal tract, the enteric nervous system, than in the brain. There is a strong correlation to fat accumulation around the abdominal area and mood. Those that have a higher percentage of fat around the midsection tend to be more depressed, angry, uptight, and unhappy. Fat accumulation is caused by insufficient nutrient exchange and poor digestion. Poor digestion leads to a decrease in serotonin production, therefore the nervous system becomes malnourished and depressed. An easy remedy to this situation is to work on creating a healthy digestive tract by eating organic nutrient dense foods and staying away from all the inhibitory factors that cause poor digestion.
