If you suffer from a cough it could be a result of a bronchial virus, acid reflux, allergies, or certain types of BP medication. All of these will weaken the cilia in the bronchial tubes, which could increase the mucous concentration. The mucous and loss of cilia will cause a cough. Avoid taking antibiotics for virus’. Taking an antibiotic for a common cold is not a good idea. Time is the best way to alleviate the common cough. Be careful with over the counter remedies, these can sometimes increase the production of mucous and cause the airways to dry up making the cough worse. The normal cough cycle is 2 weeks. If the cough persists beyond that going as long as 4-6 weeks, consult a physician because it could be something else besides what I mentioned above.
